Getting Started

Shamrock RP is a serious roleplay community. To join, you'll need to submit an allowlist application either through the website or discord.

Take time to read through our rules and guidelines, set up a working microphone or headset, and think about the kind of character you want to play. Once your application is approved, you'll receive the Allowlist role in Discord and be able to connect to the server.

If you ever feel unsure about how something should be handled in character, open a ticket on the website and a staff member can help clarify expectations before you jump into a situation.

Your first session

  • You need Red Dead Redemption 2 and RedM on PC. Launch both at least once before connecting. You may need to load into RDO once before connecting to RedM.
  • The first time you join, downloads and loading can take a while - that is normal, not a broken install. Enjoy the music and poke around in Discord while you wait.
  • Use a working microphone or headset; you must be able to hear other players. You are not required to use voice if you use /me, per our rules, however it is not a substitute for voice chat if your character as no RP reason not to be able to speak.
  • Discord is for announcements and OOC conversations. While you are in-game, do not use Discord or other outside channels to coordinate roleplay or share IC information - stay in-server. If everyone involved agrees, you may use a brief OOC conversation (e.g. "Can I speak freely?") as described in our Code of Conduct.
  • Money in county: Shamrock uses the in-server cash economy for roleplay. Some menus still mention gold-that currency is not used in Shamrock; focus on what you earn and spend in the county, and don't treat gold balances as part of your character's finances.

When roleplay goes wrong

  • If something feels off, finish the scene when you safely can - don't argue in local voice or chat.
  • Do not DM staff. Use the website ticket system (for example a Player Report) with as much detail and evidence as you can.
  • Capture evidence when possible: clips or screenshots (in-character, players often refer to this as Memory - see Phrases below).
  • OOC in the county is not allowed; if behavior violates our Code of Conduct or server integrity, report through tickets with tangible evidence.
  • Unsure whether something is allowed before you act? Open a ticket - staff can clarify expectations.

Injuries, memory & consequences

How hurt you are affects what your character remembers. This mirrors our rules (if anything here disagrees with the rules, the rules win):

  • Minor wound: You remember everything before and after; get medical attention as needed.
  • Mid-tier wound (e.g. gunshot to the body): Memory is hazy for the 10 minutes before the injury - details like hair color or how many people were there may be unclear.
  • Headshot or severe injury: You remember nothing from the 10 minutes before the incident; you may be disoriented.

NVL (not valuing life) means ignoring realistic fear and injury - for example acting invincible at gunpoint or fighting on after serious wounds. Play the danger; full detail is in our General RP rules.

RP standards

You don't need to be perfect - aim for believable RP, fair outcomes, and respect for other people's scenes. A short mindset that helps everyone: make the scene enjoyable first; the "win" comes second.

  • Stay IC and treat the county like a real place. Let moments breathe instead of rushing to force an outcome.
  • Accept consequences when they fit the story - injury, arrest, losing a fair fight or your stake in a deal can be better RP than reversing everything.
  • OOC only with consent. If you need to step out of character, ask first (e.g. "Can I speak freely?") and only get into it if everyone involved agrees. See the Code of Conduct for how we handle OOC in Shamrock.
  • Meta-gaming means using OOC knowledge (Discord, streams, DMs) to steer your character IC. Example you should avoid: heading somewhere because you saw another player say they were there in Discord.
  • Power-gaming means pushing a result without giving others a fair chance to react. Example: declaring "I knock you out" with no room for them to respond in RP.
  • Include others. Good RP invites people into the scene instead of shutting them out so only your group matters.

Examples here are shorthand. Full definitions, edge cases, and enforcement live in our General RP rules and Code of Conduct.

Jobs

There are two general categories of jobs in Shamrock RP: positions that require an application, and jobs that can be picked up directly in game via the job center.

  • Allowlisted roles such as law, medical, and other specialty positions typically require you to submit an application on the website. These roles often have additional expectations and responsibilities, so make sure you read the requirements carefully before applying.
  • Open jobs can be obtained from the in-game job board. These are great for new characters who are getting established and want to start earning money quickly without going through a separate application process.

If you're unsure whether a role is allowlisted or available on the job board, check the Applications section of the website or ask in Discord before building your character around it.

Economy & progression

  • Progression is intentional - you're not meant to be rich on day one. The server's economy is framed around a believable 1899 setting; wages, prices, and everyday costs matter, as described in our General RP rules.
  • Job-board work helps you get established, but pairing it with in-character hustling - services, transport, labour, trading favours - often beats treating the county like a solo grind.
  • Property and businesses are longer arcs. If your character is short on cash, roleplay it - being broke is valid RP and can create better stories than skipping straight to comfort.

Licenses in towns

Regulated work (hunting, fishing, and similar) expects you to buy the right paperwork in character. Licenses are sold through clerks and shops in major settlements — for example Saint Denis, Blackwater.

If you're unsure which license you need for a job or activity, check with law or experienced county members in town before assuming you're covered.

Properties

Properties can be used for personal housing, businesses, or a mix of both, depending on the location and how you want to tell your character's story.

You can browse available locations on the Properties page, filter by region and type, and review details like size and price.

When you find a property that fits your character, use the Request Property option on that listing to open a property request ticket. Staff will review your request and work with you to finalize the purchase and usage details.

FAQ

How do I join the server?

To join, log in to our website using your Discord account and submit an allowlist application under the Applications tab. Alternately you can submit an application through Discord. All questions must be answered fully and correctly. Please allow at least 24 hours for your application to be reviewed. Once approved, the ticket will be updated on the website and you will receive the Allowlist role on Discord, granting full Discord access. You will be @mentioned and will then be able to access the RedM server..

What are the server requirements?

You need Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC, a working microphone or headset, and must be 18 years or older to participate.

Can I have multiple characters?

Additional character slots may be granted to players who have spent sufficient time on the server, consistently demonstrate quality roleplay, and make a positive contribution to the community. Requests for additional character slots must be submitted through an application on our website. Please allow at least 24 hours for staff to review your request.

How do I report a rule violation?

All rule violation reports must be submitted through the ticket system on our website with the Player Report ticket type. Reports must follow the required template and include clear evidence whenever possible to ensure staff can review the case efficiently and accurately. Our team will address reports as promptly as possible once submitted.

What happens if I get banned?

Players may submit one ban appeal per ban through the ticket system on our website. Appeals allow the player to present their side of the situation and must include any relevant evidence to support their case. Please note that appeals are reviewed carefully, and if additional evidence is uncovered during the review, the ban duration may potentially be extended. Decisions made during the appeal process are final.

Can I stream or record on the server?

Yes, but you must adhere to Twitch and Discord Terms of Service. Any violation of these platforms' rules could result in bans from Shamrock RP.

Why do some menus still show gold?

RedM and the base game UI can still display gold in places Shamrock does not use for roleplay. On this server, focus on in-county cash and the economy described in the Player Guide-do not treat gold as money your character actually has.

Where do I get hunting or fishing licenses?

Buy them from the appropriate clerks or shops in major towns (for example Saint Denis, Blackwater).
